Crawlspace and Pier & Beam Repair

A lot of people think of crawl spaces as these dark and damp places that you should never visit. We understand why a lot of people don’t want to visit their crawl spaces. Some of the ones that we have worked on are in pretty bad shape overall. There are many factors that can contribute to the overall downfall of crawl spaces and pier and beam foundations. One of the main issues though is the actual lack of proper maintenance. If you have a problem obviously the first thing that we are going to want to do is help you fix it then we will want to take steps to make sure it does not happen again.

Spotting A Potential Issue

This is something that could help you determine whether or not you buy a house in the first place. If we are talking about a house that you already own if you see that the crawl space is damp or even actually wet you need help fast. A lot of moisture in this area is probably going to be accompanied by mold and other types of issues. These problems are not only going to eat away at your foundation. They can actually become a health risk for the people living inside the house.

Replacing A Pier & Beam Foundation

Across the industry, people agree that these types of foundations tend to be very stable and can hold up a home great when they are fully healthy. The main problem though is that they are probably going to need more care than most other types of foundations and they are usually going to deteriorate more over time. If you have an older home with this type of foundation it is very common that we may need to replace a lot of the pier especially to help the foundation stay upright.

Vapor Barriers & Other Solutions

There is no secret that moisture is public enemy number one for crawlspaces. Thankfully through the years, there have been many things that have been developed to help combat this issue. One of these methods is applying vapor barriers. These are basically large sheets of specially treated plastic that are going to cover the entire crawl space. When they are set up correctly they are going to be able to stop moisture from piercing through. This is just one of the many things that you can do to handle a moisture issue.
